In present day she sits in a wheelchair and because of her condition is unable to speak and moves with some difficulty. In 1944... Cindy is the manager of the Galley and Gather. She is the life of the party; everyone knows her and loves her. She looks out for everyone, cares for everyone, is very brave and headstrong. She forces herself to ignore her heartache as she has not received word from her fiancé, Eric for a few months. She fears the worst.

Melody’s eldest granddaughter. She juggles family and job. Because the financial situation of keeping the café is bleak, she begins to think, with some dissonance, that perhaps selling is the answer.

Cindy’s husband. He’s hardworking as the head cook and co-owner of Galley and Gather.

Cindy’s middle sister. She is a mom and a teacher, and is visiting to help with the café’s closing.

Cindy’s little sister. College student and intern working part time at the Galley and Gather. Fearful for her boyfriend being deployed.

Sue’s boyfriend. He is in the service and is getting ready to deploy overseas.

Pronounces her name Shal-lo´. A business woman benefactor who stands to gain the property and plans to turn it into a parking garage for her nearby office building.

Ms. Shallow’s assistant. Very nervous. Always repeating what her boss says and writing it down.

A nurse during WW2, her husband Tom is home on leave from the Pacific. Her best friend is Melody. They confide in each other.

Recently returned from the Pacific and is torn inside by what he’s seen, but is compelled to go back.

Part time waitress. Teaches school on the local base, she’s not married but hopes to meet Mr. Right.

A young GI getting ready to ship out to the South Pacific. Meets Debbie and is enamored.

A waitress at the Galley and Gather. She’s a former New Yorker, tough, loyal and sweet. She’s been around the block a few times.
