The Sound of Music Cast
Kate Szumowski (Maria)
Kate is thrilled to be playing Maria in this production of The Sound of Music! Kate has worked with a variety of theatrical companies throughout the community, performing in nearly 30 musicals over the past 18 years! Some of her favorite roles include: Glinda, The Wizard of Oz, Ed from The Lion King, Gertrude McFuzz in Seussical the Musical, and Willy Wonka in Willy Wonka. Music consumes most of Kate’s life, as she has been a member of the Empire State Youth Symphony Orchestra for five years, and has been involved with various musical groups, performing both vocally and instrumentally from a very young age. This coming fall, she will begin her course to a bachelor’s degree in French horn performance at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Kate also plans to earn her master’s degree in music education in the future! She would like to thank her endlessly supportive family, friends, and teachers for preparing her for these next steps in life. She extends special thanks to Laura Jacaruso, Michael Graves, and Alexander Hitrick for continually pushing her and supporting her in all of her endeavors.
Trenton Richmond (Captain von Trapp)
Trenton is in 12th grade at BPHS. He is very excited to be able to perform with the cast of The Sound Of Music. He has had many roles in past productions, some of his favorites include Tweedle Dum in Alice In Wonderland (Foothills Family Productions), Tin Man in The Wizard Of Oz (Broadalbin Perth Elementary/Middle School Drama), and Oliver Warbucks in Annie (Broadalbin Perth High School). Trenton designed and built the set for Rodger and Hammerstein's Cinderella for the Broadalbin Perth High School Drama Club and has helped with many Elementary School productions. Trenton would like to give special thanks to all of his fellow cast members, his amazing director, his grandparents, Mom, Dad and brother.
Ms.Sarah Cordts (Mother Abbess)
Sarah is the Broadalbin-Perth District Librarian and enjoys inspiring students to cultivate a love of reading and learning. She loves community theater and singing with all ages, giving many an opportunity in the performing arts. The "Reverend Mother" has worked with numerous community theaters. She enjoyed her role as Laurie in Oklahoma with the Galway Players. Some other favorite roles have been Hodel in Schuylerville Community Theater's Fiddler on the Roof, Mary Poppins in Malta Spotlighter Theater's Mary Poppins, and Cinderella in Cinderella’s Glass Slipper. Thank you, dear audience, for supporting our students.
Lillian Faulkner (Sister Sophia)
Lillian Faulkner is a 12th grader at BPHS. She is proud to be in this production of The Sound of Music. Some of her previous roles include Cinderella in Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella, and Lily St. Regis in Annie. She would like to thank everyone involved, especially Kate Szumowski who has inspired her greatly, she will miss her very much! She also wishes to thank everyone who has come to see the show.
Mrs. Julie Carson (Sister Berthe)
Julie is a long time teaching assistant at B-P Elementary School. She has performed as Sister Mary Amnesia in Nunsense under the direction of BP graduate Brian Clemente. Julie also sings in the Mohawk Valley Chorus. The Sound of Music is one of her favorite movies and she’s excited to be involved in this version with her family, friends and students.
Mackenzie Barkley (Sister Bernice)
Mackenzie is a sophomore who has had several roles in other productions. Other roles include: Young Kangaroo Seussical Jr, Bird Woman Mary Poppins Jr, Townsperson Beauty and the Beast with Galway Players, Who Suessical, Molly in Annie, Ensemble (All together now!), and Fairy Godmother in Cinderella. She would like to thank her mother and her siblings who are also participating in this production, her dad, her best friend Isabella, Pops, Grandma, Papa, Grammy, Grandpa, Aunt Sarah, Aunt Lacy, Uncle Mike, Uncle Bradley, Cousins Colton, Mason, and Alida, all of her teachers both at BP and PTECH, and many other family and friends for supporting her and her love of drama.
Kailyn Feerick (Louisa)
Kailyn got her start with theater when she was just 6 years old! Some of her favorite roles are Jasmine in Aladdin KIDS, Cruella DeVil in 101 Dalmatians, and Cindy Lou Who in Seussical Jr. She would like to thank Mrs. Szumowski for being an amazing director, and she would also like to thank her mom and grandma for bringing her to all of her play practices, and her dad for working on the sets.
Alix Shrome (Liesl)
Alix is in 11th grade at Broadalbin-Perth. Some of her favorite roles were Dori in Schoolhouse Rock Live Jr. and Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz. Most recently she was cast as Annie in the B-P Jr./Sr. HS Production of Annie. She is very excited to be in The Sound of Music. Alix would like to thank her family and friends for always being there for her.
Jake Teresco (Kurt)
Jake is a fifth grader at BPES, his past roles include, Elephant in Aladdin Kids, Police Officer in 101 Dalmatians, Ensemble in All Together Now, and John Darling in Peter Pan Jr. He enjoys soccer and skiing and would like to thank his parents for their help and support.
Lincoln Barker (Friedrich)
Lincoln is thrilled to be performing the role of Friedrich in this summer's production! He is 11 years old and will be entering 6th grade at BPES this fall. Lincoln has performed in multiple productions at BP including Micheal in Mary Poppins Jr., The Lollipop Guild in The Wizard of Oz Jr., Prince Abdullah in Aladdin Jr., Boxer Narrator in 101 Dalmations Kids, and Curley in Peter Pan Jr. Lincoln got his start on stage at age 4 when he performed “Uptown Funk'' in the BP Talent Show. Lincoln loves playing soccer and running and he recently took up the sport of golf. He is also an avid fan of the Olympics. In his free time, he loves traveling with his family. Lincoln is very thankful to his family for always supporting him.
Larkin Barker (Gretl)
Larkin is so excited to take on her first principal role as Gretl this summer! She is 8 years old and will be entering 3rd grade at BPES this fall. Larkin has performed as a puppy in 101 Dalmations Kids and Brave Girl 1 in Peter Pan Jr. for the BPES Drama Club. A few of Larkin’s favorite things include acro classes, singing, dancing, baking, drawing, and playing with her friend Livy. When Larkin is not creating or performing, she enjoys spending time with her family. Larkin is so grateful for her family’s unconditional love and support.
Gianna Gugliemelli (Brigitta)
Gianna will be entering 5th grade this fall. Some of her previous roles include Beggar #1 in Aladdin KIDS, Patch in 101 Dalmatians, and Slightly in Peter Pan Jr. She would like to thank her family for coming to every play she has been a part of as well as Mrs. Szumowski for giving her these roles. She is the best drama teacher you could ever ask for!
Mrs.Tammy Staie (Sister Margaretta)
Tammy has had a love for performing since she was 3, starting with dance first which then led to drama in high school. Under the direction of Katherine Quackenbush Blair, her favorite roles include Liesl Sound of Music and Anne Sullivan The Miracle Worker. She would like to thank Jen Szumowski for helping rekindle this love for live theater by allowing her to be a part of the Elementary School’s production of Aladdin Jr. and by giving her the opportunity to do choreography for their spring production of Peter Pan Jr. Tammy thinks the children at B-P are so fortunate to have an elementary director that is as passionate about drama as Jen is.
Mr. Dan Casey (Max Detweiler)
After many years in remission, Mr. Casey may have caught the acting bug again! He stepped on stage for a cameo in The BP Elementary Drama Club's production of Charlotte's Web and lent his voice to Aladdin in last spring’s show. Mrs. Szumowski must have spotted the symptoms and thought a turn at Max in this year's production may be just the prescription he needs. Mr. Casey is thankful Mrs. Szumowski took a chance on him and he hopes to make Mrs. Casey and his two daughters (true theatrical critics) proud when he steps back on stage.
Jacob Hughes (Rolf)
Jacob has played other roles such as Mowgli in The Jungle Book, Mr. Banks Mary Poppins, and The Cowardly Lion in The Wizard of Oz. Jacob is a junior in the BPHS and would like to thank Mrs. Szumowski for always working hard to ensure everyone has the best time.
Evelyn Spraker (Marta)
Evelyn will be heading into the fourth grade this fall. She has always loved singing and acting, making the stage a perfect fit for her. Evelyn has been extremely fortunate to have had the opportunity to participate in both the high school and elementary drama programs at an early age. Beginning her journey as a chorus member, Evelyn enjoyed being involved in Seussical, 101 Dalmatians KIDS, All Together Now, Cinderella, and Peter Pan. This summer, she is very excited to be taking on her first lead as Marta, in the production Sound Of Music. Evelyn would like to thank Kaitlyn Cetnar and Kate Szumowski for helping her with her dances.
