About A Dickens of a Tale

Poor old Ebenezer Scrooge is dead. But before he goes quietly into that dark night, a few of his old friends and relatives gather to remember him at a memorial service in one of the finest funeral parlors in London.  There’s more than a ghost of a chance this will be an event you’ll never forget!

Bankside Repertory Theatre presents a fun Yuletide evening for Dickens fans and for all who love the true spirit of Christmas. Written by company member Geoff Callaway, the show is being performed live at Jacoby Arts Center in Alton, Illinois, in early December.  Live music is performed by Matthew Cocks. We hope you will sing along at home!

Sing-a-long words:

1st Carol:

Adeste Fideles, listen to the angels!

O come ye, awake now, and shun mad Bedlam!

Throw off your nightcaps,

The Sons of God are good chaps,

They help raise us from earth's dust,

Our sins no longer shame us,

The chains of hell can’t claim us,

With Chri-ist the Lord.

So come all ye wasterels, listen to the angels.

You’ve only got this one shot, so make this one count!

Share all your blessings,

Make peace be your investings,

Venite adoremum

Our spirit’s store put in Him,

Let’s quit our day jobs for Him,

Almighty Lord!

2nd Carol - The Holly and the Ivy

The holly and the ivy,

When they are both full grown,

Of all the trees that are in the wood,

The holly bears the crown.

       Refrain:

The rising of the sun

And the running of the deer,

The playing of the merry organ,

Sweet singing in the choir.

The holly bears a blossom,

As white as lily flower,

And Mary bore sweet Jesus Christ,

To be our sweet Saviour.

     Refrain

The holly bears a berry,

As red as any blood,

And Mary bore sweet Jesus Christ

For to do us sinners good.

     Refrain
